Digitizing Slides and Negatives

with a Micro Four-Thirds camera

My other articles related to the Olympus OM-D System.

Here is how I do it. Just a note; with time I hope it to grow into a full-fledged write-up.

First of all, the camera with a lens. I've been using the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk.II with the MZD 60 mm F/2.8 Macro. Actually, any Micro Four Thirds camera will do. Don't worry about megapixels: 6 MP is all we need, and all μFT cameras provide more than that.

The lens is another matter. We'll need the macro capability: a maximum magnification (35mm equivalent) of 1:1, i.e. minimum field-of-view of roughly 36 mm, at a manageble distance (this depends on the adapter used, see below).

More discussion of this topic will follow in updates; at the moment let me just state that the lens I've been using here does the job nicely, to say the least.

What else was used here:

Leaving the details for later, let us jump to a few samples from my first session with this setup. These are Kodachromes shot and processed back in 1985.

Working on it..
