This is Yellowstone, the first National Park in the U.S. and one of the most visited; also different than anything you will ever see. We went there in September, when the worst crowds already dispersed, and we really enjoyed the week spent there.
In addition to the famous geysers (the Old Faithful is shown at right) and hot springs, the park includes some real mountains, the Great Canyon of Yellowstone, a high-altitude (2300 m) lake of almost 350 km2 (140 sq. miles), and lots of wildlife. To make things more exciting, the park sits in a caldera of an active volcano.
